Pulled the trigger on some spring upgrades. FT86SpeedFactory Catted UEL Header and an RCE Pro Suspension Kit. Can't wait!

So far the car has only the TRD Catback and a TRD Cold Air Intake

Funny, every time I get car parts for the BMW I think "now what else is going to break?"

Maybe I'm ignorant, but I'm not really sure how you can improve on the handling (aside from better wheels and tires) of the FRS unless you're making a track monster.

You're absolutely right, barring a full suspension overhaul. This kit is aimed at reducing the wheel gap about 0.8-1" without sacrificing the handling/travel present in the stock form.

It will also add necessary adjustable components for when I swap in 17x9 wheels/tires.

Are you going to tune it after the header? would it give you anything? Or you waiting for full i/h/e for that?

Looking at the research and testing done thus far, it will give minor performance gains in stock form (no tune), particularly in the torque dip from 3-5K rpm.

I have not decided if I want to go with a tune nor which platform I would use to do so. 1 step at a time, need to enjoy each upgrade.

This is the one thing concerning me while I try to buy this M3, because of my luck/history with part failures I know it will be some thing big and quite expensive, like how I had to replace my fuel pump, serpentine belt/ AC compressor, and timing belt/water pump all within 2 months of each other.

Is the RCE pro kit the one that comes with lower control arms and all that? I think I'll go with that in a month or two - I'll be interested to hear how you like it. I'm putting on my 17x9s on Wednesday, but I'll be rolling with a wheel gap for now. My air compressor is broken and I don't want to pay someone to install the springs. That header should be great too. Enjoy it!

Not control arms, but springs/bump stops/camber bolts and I might get some more bits as well.

Which wheel/tire combo did you spring for? I'll try to have pictures and videos of everything once it is in place. Long backorder on the headers

Very nice. I went with matte bronze Enkei RPF1s: 17x9, +35 with Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position s-04 245/40/17. What are you planning on?

Very cool, what color is your car?

I'm getting Rays Gramlight 57DR 17x9 and Michelin Super Sports in 245/40/17 for the setup seen below.

Mine is white (SWP - I've got a BRZ) Is your car grey?

That is a sick setup! I was considering that exact tire/wheel combo for a while, but just decided that i like the look of the RPF more in 17 and the Rays in 18. I decided to go with the Bridgestones cause they came in 2nd in Car and Drivers' Monsters of Grip challenge/whatever - the PSSs were first - and I found them for $140 a piece at Tire Rack.

Yup, grey!

I agree, the rpf1/bridgestone setup is hard to beat. I like RPF1s, however they don't compliment the grey color as well and I did not want to do black (murdered out). Buying the SS second hand from a friend with only 500 miles on them.

It's not that bad. I did preventative maintenance on my 330Ci when I got it: metal impeller water pump, trans flush/service, spark plugs, fuel filter, etc. I haven't had any real issues with it for the past year.

Why catted headers? Catless is the way to go! Plus they are way cheaper!!!

Live in California and didn't want to deal with a CEL/Smog. These also have the added benefit of retaining the stock skid plate, i.e. it looks stock from beneath the car.

Sounds like the dealer is going to do most of the fluids, they are also putting new tires on it. The only thing I hope I have to do is brake pads but that probably can wait till fall. Need to buy the standard 18 inch M-wheels and put snow tires on them this summer though.

Does the FRS have the FA? Or an EJ?

Sorry to have mislead you but I haven't committed to it yet. I am however taking it for a PPI this friday, I'll see what they have to say and hopefully the bank grants me a loan then I will commit.

Well most headers I know of retain the skid plate. Mine did. As for CEL. . . well I got nothing because mine just came up. But a tune will get rid of that no problem!

Also, as a tip, the 22 pound feet for torque spec for the headers is not enough. It is going to leak if you don't do at least 35!

Yeah, headers like to leak exhaust fumes! Well, not unless you do everything right! Make it tight, but not too tight the first time around. Then after a week or so of driving(do a few hard accelerations a day) go back and retighten, then you shouldn't have any problems with leaks.
